Assault is defined as unlawfully attempting to use physical force against another person; or intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm. A conviction for assault with a deadly weapon is punishable from one to six years in prison. A conviction for a misdemeanor results in a sentence from 0-6 months in jail and up to a $1,000.00 fine. Both misdemeanor and felony assaults are probationable offenses.
